Medical Device Start-up Advice

Medical Device Start-up Advice

Congratulations! You have a great idea for a new product! Now, do you have the tenacity to drive it home? Being in the contract manufacturing business for medical device and start-ups, I am fortunate to routinely review many new product ideas with clients. Confidentiality Agreements, of course, prohibit sharing specific products and success stories; however, I would like to offer direction for newcomers bringing products to market based on my experience.

It is an ongoing frustration for inventors and all parties involved when incredible potential products fail to launch. Almost always--90% of the time--product failure is due to poor planning. If you are an engineer, inventor, investor, entrepreneur or simply a winner with an idea, please take the following advice into consideration before you spend another minute or dollar on your product. Your quest will be easier. You will have credibility as you gather information and partners. People and businesses will take you seriously and work harder for you when they perceive that you have done your homework. “Light Fab’s Adhesive Gaskets Seal The Deal”

A gasket is a material or combination of materials clamped between two separate members of a mechanical joint. Gaskets are fundamental components that affect a seal between two surfaces, providing reduction of liquid or gas flow, friction control, and irregular surface bonding.

Whether you have a small, precise space to fill or a sizeable gap, Light Fab will cost effectively solve your gasket solution. We specialize in enhanced design features which add value by greatly improving the efficiency and dependability of the gasket and reducing installation time.

The best way to improve the application of a standard gasket is to add a pressure sensitive adhesive to one or both sides. We supply the best proven adhesives available that are resistant to fluids or environment that the gasket is used in. We then laminate adhesive to the gasket material and precision cut to shape. A gasket that is securely affixed to one or more irregular surfaces is much more stable and accurately placed during and after the assembly process.

Designed-in features enhance the seal that a gasket provides. Features such as center stiffeners, foil heat shield layer, UV & flame retardant adhesive foam, low compression set closed-cell foam/stable film on the other, peel and stick gaskets on rolls and more! Incorporating our unique mix of equipment and cutting capabilities, we manufacture gaskets to securely grip faster with tight-tolerance features, angles and dispensing options.

Customers often need multiple layers of combined engineered materials to effectively meet their sealing and gap filling needs. We simplify the process with automated manufacturing solutions on the most complicated applications. Light Fab can source all materials, create processes to precision cut, stack, zone laminate, layer materials together, multi-level cut to shape, apply removable liners and package for a total solution to your gasketing challenge.

We specialize in high-end medical and aerospace composite materials such as: Bisco Silicones, EMI/RFI conductive foil and shielding, 3M VHB, microcellular urethane to economical materials such as EPDM rubber, Nitrile, Buna, neoprene, felt and foam.

If you need to produce 1 gasket or millions, we have the expertise and the machines to convert just about any material. We have steel die, rotary die, matched metal die cutting machines, laser cutting machines, XYZ CAD cutting machines, slitters, laminators, winders and more.
